Randy Mollett, a 35-year-old Ohio resident, has been arrested in connection with a tragic incident that resulted in the death of a three-year-old child under his care. This heartbreaking event has once again brought attention to the issue of child endangerment and the devastating consequences it can have.
Mollett, who has a history of child endangerment, faced similar charges in the past. In 2008, he was convicted on counts of felonious assault and endangering children after a 23-month-old child suffered serious injuries while under his supervision. Despite serving eight years in prison for his previous offenses, Mollett found himself facing similar accusations again.
The events leading to the child’s death unfolded on April 13 when Mollett contacted emergency services to report that the child had stopped breathing at his residence near Grove City. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the child was pronounced dead upon arrival at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
A subsequent toxicology report revealed that the child had ingested a lethal dose of Diphenhydramine, commonly known as Benadryl. The dosage, which exceeded 5,000 ml, was administered without authorization from the child’s parents. This revelation has raised concerns about the responsible administration of medication to children and the importance of ensuring their safety and well-being.
During police questioning, Mollett admitted to giving the medicine to the child, further implicating him in the tragic incident. As authorities continue their investigation, Mollett has been charged with murder, reckless homicide, and endangering children, underscoring the severity of the allegations against him.
