According to the office of the State Attorney, Jason Lynady Sr. was taken into custody on Tuesday to begin serving his sentence of fifty years in jail.
Maliyah Godwin, who was 13 years old at the time, was shot in the Majestic Oaks Apartments, and Lynady was previously indicted for first-degree murder as well as other offenses related to the incident.
Lynady was taken into custody on April 23, 2021, as a result of an investigation that was conducted by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO). According to the statements made by the sheriff’s office, Godwin was shot at the Majestic Oaks Apartments before being taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
