When the trailer was released after a long wait, it was appreciated by fans and critics alike. From concept to performances, fans were looking forward to the film. However, when it was finally released in the theaters, it didn’t perform well. The movie only grossed Rs 23 crore. However, now that it has been released on Amazon Prime, the movie has found love from the audiences.
3. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar
The 2021 movie went almost unnoticed after its release in the theaters. It was not released in many theaters because of Covid-19. However, when it was streamed on OTT, the movie garnered love from the audience. Because of the word of mouth, the movie became a hit on OTT.
The Sushant Singh Rajput starrer movie was also his last release in the theaters. The movie – although a great one based on students’ life and peer pressure that comes along with it – didn’t do well at the box office but was a major hit when it was released on OTT. It is still one of the best movies available on Hotstar.
Anyone who has watched Tumbbad has been in awe of the film for its intriguing story-line and excellent use of graphics. When India’s Oscar entry was announced in 2019, people thought tombbad would have made a better choice than gully boy. But did you know the movie didn’t perform well at the box office? However, after it’s release on Amazon Prime, it became a cult. do you know a sequel is in the making?
A brilliant movie that gives a brilliant message also had phenomenal performance, and yet, it failed to make a mark on the box office business. The Anubhav Sinha directorial starring Taapsee Pannu didn’t make as much money as trade analysts would have expected it to. However, the engaging drama was a superhit online.
This movie only failed because of Covid-19 pandemic. The makers waited for a long time to release it only in theaters, and rightly so. A film of a grandeur like this one deserved to be released on big screen. And when after the success of Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi, the Ranveer Singh starrer movie based on India’s cricket world cup win was finally released, the third wave had hit the nation leading to decrease in footfall in theaters. When people watched the movie on OTT, they only showered praises.
While this epic sports drama was premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and also at the 2017 Mumbai Film Festival, it could mint only around Rs 10 crores at the box office. The movie turned out to be a sleeper hit and now has an IMDb rating of 8 on 10. The movie stars Vineet Kumar Singh, debutant Zoya Hussain, Ravi Kishan and Jimmy Shergill in the lead roles.
Anyone who watched this movie starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Manoj Bajpayee among others had only praised the movie. With a brilliant story, earnest performances and well-directed cinematography, Abhishek Chaubey’s movie was praised by the audience and critics. However, the movie wasn’t a success at the box office. If you haven’t yet watched this film, you will be pleasantly surprised when you watch it.
This is one of the biopics that didn’t do well. The Hansal Mehta directorial starred Rajkummar Rao in the role of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, British terrorist of Pakistani descent. The movie revolves around 1994 kidnappings of Westerners in India for which Omar was arrested. He served time in prison for plotting of murder of Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002. The movie has one of the finest storytelling and is definitely worth a watch.
11. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy
Khosla Ka Ghosla director Dibakar Bannerjee was pretty confident about this film, which was an adaptation of the hit detective book series of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, but the film failed to live up to his expectations at the box office. It remains to be a critically acclaimed and a great film that unfortunately couldn’t do well at the box office.
